Together Forever?! : "Made For Each Other"

Introduction

My first story is equivalent of a fairytale of the modern times. There's a prince charming and a damsel in distress but no white horse and certainly no armies of iron-clad men!

This story is my favorite one of the entire lot. Read on to know more...

Made For Each Other

Saahil and Priya studied in the same school. Priya was a year junior to Saahil and had a major crush on him since 6th grade. While most people would term it as a side-effect of raging hormones, this one was different. Saahil wasn’t exactly attracted to Priya and the gentleman that he was he didn’t want to disappoint her. So, he chose the harmless option of being “just friends”. Saahil never gave much of a thought to what he’d said but for Priya, it meant the whole world.

Years rolled by. Saahil and Priya would talk for hours on the phone, meet up whenever possible and shared every single moment of happiness and sorrow with each other… all of it, being “just friends”! Priya was in 10th grade, when her parents got to know about her crush. It wasn’t good. Her mother was very conservative and felt that her daughter should be with a guy whom she would choose. She didn’t want to give Priya the liberty to pick her life partner. This led to major arguments and fights at home. Priya received no support from her father as well. Very soon, these verbal fights turned violent and Priya’s mother began abusing her physically. So much that, it was like a theatrical performance for the neighbors who would watch Priya’s mother hold her daughter’s hair and bang her head against the wall till she bled.

Priya was a brilliant girl as far as studies were concerned. She somehow managed to concentrate on studies and clear her 10th-grade board exams with distinction. That was the end of school life but her mother’s abuses at home hadn’t ended. The following year she got into college. It was the same college where Saahil studied. There were all kinds of restrictions laid down upon her. She was supposed to be back at a fixed time; not a minute late. Her mother would keep a check on her whereabouts second by second. She wasn’t allowed to be wandering about with friends either and wasn’t allowed to have a mobile phone. Her life was pretty much like being under house arrest.

Saahil knew about her situation. He knew Priya had feelings for him but he was beginning to lose interest in her because he wanted to spend time with her and talk to her on the phone, all of which she couldn’t afford to do thanks to her mother spying on her 24x7. He was considering dating another girl. When Priya got to know this, she got desperate and wanted to make this work. In order to sort out the matter, one day she took the risk and dialed out to Saahil from her landline at home. Unfortunately, her mother happened to hear the conversation. This was followed by some terrible thrashing.

This had happened a million times before. But in that moment, something changed Saahil’s mind. All this while, he had known how Priya’s mother treated her but never had the courage to do anything about it. Not this time. It was way past 10 at night. He took his bike and set out for Priya’s house. He landed up at her doorstep and rang the doorbell. When her mother attended the door, he gave her a piece of his mind while Priya astoundingly watched him fight against her own mother for her! Ending the argument, in a very loud voice, Saahil announced that he would come by in the morning the next day and take Priya with him. Looking towards Priya, with a commanding tone, he asked her to pack her bags and all belongings and be ready early morning.

Priya could barely get any sleep the whole night. She packed her stuff and waited for dawn, anxious about the time that lay ahead; nervous about what was going to happen. As promised, Saahil came to take her to his house. She walked out of that “prison” holding Saahil’s hand, not turning back even once and without any hint of regret. Saahil’s parents were very welcoming and open-hearted. They accepted Priya as their own daughter. In a society that ridicules a guy and a girl living together without a formally-accepted relationship, Saahil’s parents faced-it-all and did everything they could to make their new daughter happy. They took her out on a holiday for a couple of days, so that she could have a change of mind, they let her complete her graduation, bought clothes for her and did everything that parents would normally do for their child. They also helped Priya lodge an FIR with the local police against her mother and father for child abuse. Court cases are currently on.

In a couple of years, Priya had completely moved on from the emotional and physical torture. She completed her education and found a stable job while still continuing to live at Saahil’s place and being forever grateful to his parents. One year later, she got married to Saahil in a simple wedding ceremony.

On her wedding day, Priya looked like one of the most beautiful brides I’ve ever seen! She didn’t have any of her close friends beside her; neither did she have her own parents. But her eyes twinkled with pure joy that I’ve never seen before. All she desired was the love of her life! And he was standing there beside her, holding her hand, to be hers and only hers forever more! It was like her every dream was coming true.

I can only imagine what that must feel like… getting married to the same guy she had a crush on since 6th grade! Today, it’s been 2 years for their marriage and they’re one of those couples who are so very much in love with each other that people around them cannot help but notice it. Truly, made for and destined to be with each other. And just in case you’re wondering, what about her parents. The answer is, she’s still not in touch with them and doesn’t intend to be ever. She has found bliss in her new life and wholeheartedly embraced her new family. On the other hand, Saahil is happier than he has ever been. He happens to be one of the bravest, gutsiest (if there's ever a word like that!) and an absolute gentleman I’ve known. Guys like him are rarely found these days! Priya is indeed lucky to have found true love in a guy like Saahil and utterly blessed to have such loving and caring in-laws!

As I end my story, here’s wishing them the happiness of a lifetime and even more…

Priya and Saahil… made for each other …A true fairytale! :)
